Ashley wanted some flowers in the background and she was wearing this pretty yellow sundress. Stella De Oro lilies to the rescue. The flowers were in bright sunshine so Mom held the “artificial shade” and I popped in some “artificial sunshine” to balance the lighting. Light direction is key to creating a nice portrait. All in all a nice senior portrait of a pretty girl.

Here’s a weekend bonus image – but not from the comfort of my own backyard. As usual Kate and I met the siblings on the southeast corner of 3rd Avenue and 7th Street NE – our fireworks spot for the last several years.

My Dad loved fireworks and  would’ve flipped out at this year’s spectacular! The grand finale was incredible!! Thanks so much to Andy’s Liquor and Joe Powers/Canadian Honker as well as the other sponsors of this year’s show. We are lucky to have those businesses and people in our town!

Odd that you can actually be too close to fireworks for good photos. In most of my images the explosion went outside the frame – and I was using a 24mm lens! (actually a 36mm on a Nikon digital camera). So . . . this multi-burst image is courtesy of a little Photoshop manipulation. Thought it might be neat to get a night-time skyline image of downtown and place these bursts over the buildings.

    Hope your weekend was grand!

Brooke brought in three long dresses for her senior session. We both had the same idea of the juxtaposition of the formal foofy dress set against the urban grunge look of the railroad tracks. We did a few images with a more pensive expression but I liked this one best. What a great smile!

What a fun session – lots of cool images. For years I have used an off camera flash for fill light 0n my outdoor portraits. It fills in the shadows just a bit and adds some sparkle to the eyes. In years past I used something called a “Fuzzy-flector” named for it’s inventor – Fuzzy Duenkel of Wisconsin. Fuzzy is an extraordinary photographer. I pulled out the “fuzzy-flector” this morning for the last few images of Jocelyn’s session and this is the result. Beautiful soft wrap around light that was just perfect for her delicate skin tone. I like this image alot.

Rachel chose our two hour session but really liked the downtown images as opposed to the Plummer House. Being that we had a little more time we were able to experiment with some new locations. This image is 0n the west side of the 4th Street US Bank building. This side was in the shade at this time of day but with some great directional light bouncing off the buildings across the street. Beautiful lighting and an unbeatable smile make for a wonderful portrait. Thanks Rachel!

Amanda is a ballet dancer and wanted an image using her bar – am image that looked like a dance studio. Fortunately we have original hardwood floors here in the studio – very dance studio like! I like Amanda’s pose in this image, the stretch of her leg and the graceful curve or her arms and back. We went for dramatic lighting to accentuate the feel.
