“Yes Virginia this is a good spot for a portrait.” Virginia was in on Monday for her session. It was a morning session so I try to stay on the west side of the downtown buildings and catch the early morning light bouncing off the buildings across the street. This image is proof that it doesn’t take much to create a nice background for a portrait. Virginia is sitting at a small picnic table just off the sidewalk next to the restaurant on the corner of Third Street and Broadway. There is a utility box  to her right out of camera view and there was lots of trash floating around. The sun in the east hilighted her hair just right, a little fill light and a great smile. Bingo!

Cassie was in last Friday for the Senior’s Choice session. She was into music and we did some images with all her CD’s piled up around her. The CD’s were just for looks of course since all of that music was on her iPod. She had these funky colorful tennis shoes and I thought we should show them off. We created this image with an 18mm wide-angle lens which accentuated her already long legs. Then I converted the image to black and white in Photoshop and painted back her tennis shoes. Fun!!

Rachinna was in on Thursday afternoon for an Artist’s Choice session. Her friends Megan and Heidi came along for moral support. Rachinna wanted several poses in front of the brick wall, some of them sitting in a chair. I was starting to get her situated, she had her hands on the seat and was about to move into a pose. All of a sudden both Megan and Heidi said, “oooh I like the pose just like that.” and so we took it and I like it too. Seems kinda fashion-like. Happy coincidence! The black and white was my idea. (I have to claim at least some of the credit)

Jacqueleen was in this morning for the Senior’s Choice session. She had 367 outfits (just kidding Jacqueleen) and this was one we chose for outdoor images. I liked this spot with this outfit because of the contrast between the bright green ivy and her bright yellow capris – and then I shot this closeup image and didn’t get the pants anyway (on this image). Jacqueleen did do some serious expressions but not many; why would you with this smile!!

Like a couple of the guys from last week Jenessa had an easy way in front of the camera. She could carry off just about any pose I put her in. She liked outdoor photos with soft out of focus backgrounds and this was her favorite dress. I thought about removing the bolt of bright sun across the middle of the background but then decided against it – I think it adds something.

Nicole was in yesterday for the Artist’s Choice two hour session. Her first outfit was this beige tank and the background was one I hadn’t used yet this summer. I liked the color harmony created by the backgrounds earthy colors, her top and her hair and skin t0ne. And that awesome hair – perfect for portraits! Hard to take a bad picture of Nicole. (and I didn’t;-))
