We have a long standing (eight years and counting) tradition on my side of the family – Sibling Supper. Once a month my brother, my two sisters, their respective spouses and Kate and I get together for dinner and conversation. Depending on the week we’ve all had a little card playing may enter in as well.
Christmas for the last several years, in lieu of exchanging gifts amongest ourselves we have participated in the “Adopt a Family” program. We always requested a family of four and each couple would buy gifts for one member of our adopted family.
This year we decided to change things up a bit. From 12:00 ’til 2:00 on Saturday we rang the bell for the Salvation Army at Walmart South. Sister Sue brought along a boom box and several Christmas CD’s and Sister Cathy brought a big basket of candy canes to hand out to the kids. We’d like to think we gathered more than our fair share of donations – that whole Christmas gang intimidation thing!;-)
Our ding-a-linging done we went to Brother Michael’s house and made Christmas cookies. By the end of the day we had three trays laden with more than eight dozen cookies each. On Sunday Cathy delievered one each to Hope Lodge, Gift of Life and the Ronald McDonald House.
We had an enjoyable day, helped a couple of good causes and replenished our own Christmas spirit as well. Merry Christmas to all. May this season find you all healthy, happy and enjoying the love and laughter of friends and family.
